Asia Williams has been named an Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator as new Head Women’s Basketball Coach Robin Harmony continues to add to her coaching staff.

Williams joins The College after spending the past season at Western Carolina in the Southern Conference, where she also took on the role of Recruiting Coordinator while working primarily with the guards during practice.

“Asia is a great hire and brings experience in the Carolinas to our staff,” Harmony said. “Asia was a big-time player at Wake Forest, her ties in the North Carolina area, her coaching experiences, we know she’ll be a great addition to our family here in Charleston.”

Prior to her time at Western Carolina, Williams spent two years at UNCG as an assistant coach, helping lead the Spartans to the first 20-win season in a decade in 2016-17, an appearance in the WBI Tournament Championship game while reaching the semifinals of the 2018 Southern Conference Championship. She was also responsible for the individual skill development of the SoCon Freshman of the Year Nadine Soliman, four All-SoCon selections, two All-Freshman team selections and a SoCon All-Tournament pick.

Williams spent the 2015-16 season at LIU-Brooklyn, helping develop two Northeast Conference Third Team selections, also spending two seasons at Appalachian State prior to that, helping the Mountaineers to a 10-8 league record in their final season in the SoCon.

A native of Durham, N.C., Williams is a former North Carolina High School Gatorade Player of the Year and stand out for the Demon Deacons. She appeared in 109 games for Wake Forest and made 36 starts in the backcourt. During her senior campaign in Winston-Salem, she led the team with 145 assists, the sixth highest in single-season history while ranking fourth on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per game.
